THE CLIENT
Porthleven has a great reputation for food, the natural environment, and culture. It’s a growing tourist destination. In 2011 the Porthleven CIC was set up to create ways to engage visitors for longer – and set up projects to inject money back into the community.
Celebrating Porthleven’s heritage, the Town Trail is a tour of thirteen key buildings located around the historic harbour.
THE BRIEF
The CIC had engaged Penryn-based agency Creative Steam to build a website and an app for the trail. I was drafted in to provide the words and project management of the associated leaflet.
THE RESULTS
Lifting the lid on the past
I began by delving into the past, reading and researching the facts and stories of Porthleven. I sifted and sorted through hundreds of images, selecting the best for both the on and offline versions of the Trail.
Picking out key information, I crafted digestible posts with pithy pull-quotes and fact-packed box outs to grab and hold the readers’ interest.
Meeting with local historians added to the depth of the detail and ensured I had crosschecked everything – ensuring accurate dates and truthful tales.
Suzie was extremely helpful in compiling the Porthleven Town Trail. Her research skills and ability to then edit down the vast amount of information she had gathered and present it in a way that is interesting and draws the reader in was perfect for the project.
Suzie is available when you need her, does fantastic work and brings great ideas along too. We’d certainly recommend her for anyone undertaking research, writing and project management tasks.

Propelling forwards
Designers and printers were engaged to craft an offline leaflet and I then project managed the creation of this leaflet within budgetary requirements.
Finally I worked closely with the developers and printers to proofread and check the uploads, making sure all the words had been correctly transferred into their new home.
