THE CLIENT
Helston Town Council is a borough council in west Cornwall, consisting of voluntary Councillors serving their community.
Their responsibilities range from upkeep of public conveniences and spaces to planning to promoting and marketing the town.
THE PROJECT
The Town Council had formed a working group to refresh and re-launch the town’s heritage trail as part of a wider piece of work to promote the town. The existing trail was long, dense and written in an old fashioned way.
Owing to existing signage I needed to follow a given trail route, with a number of ‘stops’ added in. I used the library at the Museum of Cornish Life in Helston and spoke with local historians to research additional stories and to fact-check. I then rewrote the text to ensure it was more engaging and made deeper connections by telling stories of people rather than just describing places, materials and dates.
